Set up economic revival team, MAN tells FG – The Manufacturers Association of Nigeria has urged the government to set up a committee consisting of tested technocrats and stakeholders who will formulate policies and blueprints targeted at getting the economy back on track.
The Chairman, MAN, Ikeja branch, Mr. Oba Okojie, gave the advice at a forum where he stressed that it was time to save the country from sinking.
He said Nigeria’s economy should not be allowed to degenerate to the level of nations such as Zimbabwe and Democratic Republic of Congo, which were classified among the poorest in Africa.
He said, “Zimbabwe and Democratic Republic of Congo are the poorest countries in Africa, according to Consumer News and Business Channel, with a GDP per capita of $200 and $400, respectively.
“Nigeria cannot afford to fall into this abysmal comity of nations. The problems of corruption, scarcity of forex, power, fuel, technological advancement, etc, are here because they were not tackled since years back.
“These must be tackled now. I therefore use this medium to implore the government to invite/form a committee of tested technocrats and stakeholders towards formulating policies and blueprints that will get the economy back on track.”
He lamented the challenges facing manufacturers in Nigeria, adding that the negative indices working against smooth manufacturing in the country were numerous.
He said, “The negative indices working against smooth manufacturing in the country are legion coupled with a depressed economy. Perhaps the biggest of manufacturers’ problems currently is sourcing for foreign exchange, as major raw materials are sourced overseas.”
According to him, the problems can be solved through technological development by strengthening technical colleges in the country.
