South-South And Triangular Cooperation In Action

This publication provides an overview of UNESCO’s policy approach to promoting South-South and triangular cooperation in each of its areas of competence with specific regional and country level examples. It aims to contribute to preparations for the second High-level United Nations Conference on South-South Cooperation2 by reviewing the lessons learned from UNESCO’s experience in promoting South-South and triangular cooperation, identifying the challenges faced, and working with partners to develop an effective way forward.

40% don’t access education in a language they understand

40% don’t access education in a language they understand- A new paper by UNESCO’s Global Education Monitoring Report (GEM Report) reports that 40% of the global population does not access education in a language they understand. The policy paper, ‘If you don’t understand, how can you learn?’ released for International Mother Language Day (21 February), argues that being taught in a language other than their own can negatively impact children’s learning, especially for those living in poverty.
