Support to Nigeria Malaria Programme (SuNMaP)

Support to Nigeria Malaria Programme (SuNMaP) – Health Partners International (HPI) is a partner in the consortium managing an exciting new programme of support to the National Malaria Control Programme (NMCP) in Nigeria, funded by the Department for International Development (DFID). The consortium is led by the Malaria Consortium. Other partners include Federation of Muslim Women Association in Nigeria, Health Reform Foundation of Nigeria (HERFON), Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Group (PMG), Christian Health Association of Nigeria (CHAN) and GRID Consulting.

The Support to Nigeria Malaria Programme will strengthen delivery of Nigeria’s national malaria control effort by:

  • strengthening national and state level capacity to effectively plan, manage and coordinate malaria control activities
  • providing technical assistance to the Federal Ministry of Health to help develop its capacity in policy development, national planning, operational research and monitoring and evaluation
  • capacity building in up to 12 states to develop and implement plans for effective malaria control
  • increasing the active involvement of community leaders and women’s groups in malaria prevention and control, and directly supporting the delivery of effective malaria prevention and treatment activities such as the distribution of impregnated bed nets and health promotion activities.

The programme will aim to harmonise efforts of donors and funding agencies around agreed national policies and plans for malaria control. We are represented on the consortium management board and provide technical advisers for building stakeholder capacity, health systems strengthening and social development.
